Hello, you! I'm Soph - a 22 year old girl currently living in Liverpool, spending most of her time writing, taking photo's, drinking coffee & trying not to eat too much cake.

I have a secret.

I have a secret. Don't we all?

We all have secrets. We all have things that we'd rather not have anyone else know, things that we feel are best just kept to ourselves or between a few. Or it could be that no one else can know, because it means that less people will get hurt if you keep it to yourself. Or, simply, it could be a surprise. Something amazing has just happened that you can't tell anyone else just yet.

Growing up, I think we're all taught that secrets are bad, that you should always be 100% honest with everyone around you. But I think when you do grow up, it's just not that simple anymore. Does keeping something from someone because you think it's for the best mean that you're not being honest? Does it make you a bad person? I don't think so. (I mean, obviously if this secret is that you've just killed someone or that you've just stolen something, then the answer's probably yes... but you get what I mean.)

Life gets complicated sometimes, and the pressures from society and social media to be 'perfect', and to create this ideal that we're all meant to live in can mean that we're too afraid to say things, admit things that we secretly love, or confide in our friends because of the fear of what they would think.

I was thinking the other day, about different things that some of my closest friends have confided in me with, and that I know that there are things that they have confided in other friends that I don't know. And the same goes for me too. There's little bits of my life that different friends know about, because I went to them for advice on different topics because I knew that they would be great at it. But, does this mean that any of us will ever have one person that knows everything about us?

Maybe this is me just being young and naive, but I'm curious to know, do you guys have one person that truly knows everything about you? Or do you keep little things from even your closest of friends?

Soph

  1. I've got one very close friend who pretty much does know everything about me - we've been good friends since we were about thirteen and have a facebook chat thread that's been going since the start! Things I'd never dream of admitting to other people, she knows about and I think it works in reverse too. Besides her though, no one else gets to know absolutely everything - I like to keep a few secrets for myself!

  2. No one person knows it all. I seem like an open book but I have my secrets and I like it that way. :)

  3. I have one person that knows a lot of things about me (not all of them, but most yes) and that's my sister. She has been always one of the most trustworthy person in my life. But I don't think that my friends have to know everything about myself. I like when I have a secret. :)

  4. Honestly, there are some things that no one will ever know. Some of my secrets are mine alone and although I do share on occasion with people I tend to be quite private about personal matters. It is interesting though because growing up I never thought secrets were bad if anything I was taught that over-sharing was bad and that's why I think I find it difficult to open up to people xxx

  5. I love this and I think it's so true! I almost think it's human nature to keep secrets, and I think sometimes the best option in life is to keep some things completely to yourself - i Know i do.

  6. What I find is that in the end we have to walk our path simply on our own. Walking with friends is consolidating and nice, inspiring and calming. But another person can never truly understand you. Their advice is always their perspective.

  7. I think about this all of the time - I don't have anyone that knows me 100% because I choose not to give all of myself to anyone, that just scares me too much!

  10. I'm the same! I have different friends who known different secrets because I go to each one about something different for advice, it works well, the only person who knows absolutely everything about me is probably my boyfriend who's like my best friend as well! x

  12. I have close friends that know bits about me, like you I go to them for advice. I don't have just one person that knows everything about me. I don't why but I just feel unsafe about telling one person everything even if it is someone close to me. Is that weird?
