Hello, you! I'm Soph - a 22 year old girl currently living in Liverpool, spending most of her time writing, taking photo's, drinking coffee & trying not to eat too much cake.

Just do it, do it now & never give up.

If you'd have told me this time last year, that I'd be where I am now, I'd have probably giggled. I'd have laughed it off thinking that there was no way that it could ever happen. Either that, or I'd have kissed you with gratitude and relief.

Because, 12 months ago, I was unhappy. The unhappiest I've ever been, and I didn't quite know what to do about it. I felt lost, I was exhausted, I'd lost all my motivation, and I couldn't see a way out of this little 'slump'.

I hated my job, but I had bills to pay. I wasn't happy with my body or how I looked, but due to previously mentioned job, I didn't have time to go to the gym. I was constantly tired. My anxiety levels were ridiculous. I had no time to do what I wanted to do, and I had more down days than I care to remember.

Fast forward a few months, and I realised that I couldn't give up. I just needed a plan.
'That moment when you want to quit, is the moment you need to keep pushing.'

I knew which industry I needed to get into, that would give me the skills and knowledge to achieve my ultimate goals. So, I needed to learn about this industry. I needed to network, make valuable contacts, and take every opportunity possible, no matter what form this appeared in.

I needed to stop 'looking' at those online courses. Looking is one thing, but actually doing something about it was what I needed to start the process. If you're serious enough about something, you'll do it. There and then.

I needed to keep things up. I needed to stay consistent, not stop, pause, or take a break. I needed to show commitment, and prioritise the things that were going to help me achieve the future that I wanted.

Knowing that only I could get myself to where I wanted to be was key. I knew that there were going to be bumps, and struggles along the way. I knew that there were going to be challenges that I would need to overcome, but staying positive and having faith in myself, helped.

If you want something bad enough, you'll go and get it. You'll take risks. You'll keep working hard and not take your foot off the pedal. You'll continue to strive for what you want, and even when things seem to be getting tough, you won't give up.

You won't stop learning. You'll listen to those who already have the knowledge that you need. Ask questions, use your contacts wisely, and more than anything, use your time efficiently & recognise those opportunities.

My opportunity came from a text I sent one ordinary, Wednesday morning in October, whilst running late and sat in traffic, listening to the radio. A week later, and things snowballed. Had I not recognised this as an opportunity to learn, grabbed and held onto it pretty quickly, who knows where I'd still be.

But, you also sometimes have to be patient. Things didn't start to change for me until January. But keep working at your goal, have that plan in place, stop making excuses and just do it. Do it now, and never give up.

Motivation comes from looking at the things you want, and realising what it takes to get them'

Soph

  4. This is an amazing post. I love reading about how people turned their lives around and giving advice from experience. I'm with you on this one, this time last year I'd just got my dream job, well a step away from it. But with that as bump up to tell me, things can only get better now - but only if you work hard at it and you do it now. Now I'm doing my dream course for my actual dream job in September. It's going to be hard and scary year (and luckily only one year), but I will do it and I know I'm going to be the happiest ever the day I graduate :)

Thanks for sharing this, it's inspiring and motivational!
