Hello, you! I'm Soph - a 22 year old girl currently living in Liverpool, spending most of her time writing, taking photo's, drinking coffee & trying not to eat too much cake.

Feeling comfortable in my own skin.

Do you know what's really important? Feeling good about ourselves. Feeling comfortable in our skin, and being happy. I think it takes a long time to get to the point when we're 100%, well and truly happy with who we are, and what we look like. I also think it's a lot easier said than done, but it's something I've been really trying to work on.

Learning to accept yourself is hard. Like, really hard. Particularly when your natural reaction is to compare everything you've ever done to someone else, and let's not even get started on comparing how we look, and I'm sure we all do it.  But, it's important to channel these thoughts the right way.

Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world. - Lucille Ball

It's important to remember to be kind and gentle to ourselves, and to give ourselves a little break sometimes. Because we can. If there's one thing that I promised myself at the beginning of this year, it was to practise more self care and self love. To focus on the positives, to constantly move forward, and try and make sure my physical and mental health was the best it could be.

But, what is self love? I feel like this gets thrown around a lot, but no one really knows how to get there. Like learning to accept yourself, I think it means really getting to know... you. Get to know your boundaries, your values, and figure out what makes you feel good on your own, without anyone else to depend on.

Ultimately, it's up to us to be happy. We have the power to control whether we feel good today or not. No one else. You may not be in your dream job, or in the perfect relationship, or have that Givenchy handbag that you're convinced will make your life just that little bit better, but if you're happy, and confident, and comfortable in yourself, none of this will make a difference.

Physical health is just as important as mental health when it comes to being happy. Drink lots of water, exercise regularly, eat well and look after your skin. And, of course make sure you save time and room to treat yourself, too.

Right now, I feel happy. I feel good about myself and I feel comfortable in my own skin. I feel the most confident I think I ever have done and I feel like I'm starting to really figure things out.

Days like today are because I stop dwelling on the negatives. I stop being super hard on myself for the things that aren't quite going to plan. And I stop trying to impress anyone else but myself.

Don't rely on someone else for your happiness and self-worth. Only you can be responsible for that. - Stacey Charter

  1. This is such a lovely post. I definitely savour the days when I feel really good about myself and celebrate all the best things about me. Everyone gets days when you just don't feel so self-positive, but it's important to remember that no one is perfect, and accepting that takes me a lot closer to accepting myself :)

  4. I love this post so so much & I couldn't agree more! Self-love is a process & to me it has a lot to do with self-discovery as well :) It's not about loving every single thing about yourself but learning to accept these flaws. I'm glad to hear you're at a point where you feel comfortable being who you are x

  16. This has been my mantra for a while now. Why be unhappy when we can choose to be happy? We are who we are, so make the most of it and enjoy the one life we have! I am so glad you are there in the self love camp.

  20. Love this post Sophie. We all too easily forget to look after ourselves sometimes but we all know we enjoy it when we do!!! Everyone should take time out to themselves and enjoy it without feeling guilty!! We're all guilty of snatching a quick 5 minutes here and there thinking it's enough, but surely we deserve more?? I'd like to think so anyway.
Lovely blog hun, first time here so i'm off for a little read.
    Take care of yourself

  22. This is such an important post, I adore it. My mum kindly turned round to me a few days ago and told me that she thinks I've started seeing everything in a negative light and that it is actually hard to be around me sometimes, she said she didn't know why I was like that as she's always known me as the easy going positive person in our family and so I really am beginning to work on myself, it's all about the self love and I really think this little post will help me to think more positively about myself

  23. I think that coming to some form of self acceptance is an important part of everyone's life and is never really complete. We're always evolving and having to accept our new selves. It is good that everyone talks about it more now and it helps us all feel less alone because of it!

Also: I absolutely love your bunny eyemask, where did you get it? (not that I plan to find one of my own ;) )
