I've been to the races a few times now, and the first time I attended, I didn't quite know what to wear. The one thing I quickly realised about about a race day, is that it's an excuse to dress up, throw on a pretty dress, and feel fabulous for a few hours.
I had approximately half an hour to decide what I was going to wear to the races this weekend, impromptu plans and all that, but when Em asked me if I wanted to accompany her to Newbury races this weekend, I knew that I wanted to dress things up a little.
If you've never been to the races before, it's just the most perfect place to not only people watch, but also get some fabulous outfit ideas for next time. There were so, so many beautiful dresses, and beautiful suits, for that matter!
I opted for this midi length, off-the shoulder white dress with a sweetheart neckline that I bought for my 21st birthday last year, with this pink blazer that I commandeered from my Mum (when she was about to throw it out!) thrown over the top. With all this lovely weather recently, I definitely wanted to go with a spring/summer vibe, so this was perfect for something light, bright and a little bit of pastel colour to go with it!
My black, strap heeled sandals were my footwear of choice for the day, accompanied by my black Zara handbag that I literally take everywhere. It's looks pretty, matches most of my shoes, and you can fit a whole lot of
crap, um, 'useful stuff', in there too.
There's something about being somewhere where everyone is dressed up. Seeing all the ladies in dresses, and all the guys looking particularly dapper in their suits. Thankfully, it turned out to be another beautiful day, and while neither of us placed a single bet, I had such a lovely time! We spent the hours we were there eating, people watching, chatting away, drinking all of the virgin mojito's and soaking up the sunshine.
Not bad for a weekend that started out with no plans!
Have you ever been to the races?
