Losing sight.

I love blogging. It has become one of the most important things to me in my life, I've met the most amazing people and the last year has genuinely been incredible. However, recently I feel like I've lost sight as to why I started my blog in the first place.

The last week I've been beating myself up over the fact that I haven't blogged in over a week. I have SO MANY emails that I need to reply to, a ton of blog posts that I need to write for brands, and well, that YouTube series that I started last week isn't going too well so far. I'm having a bit of 'bloggers block', to put it one way. My blogging motivation is at a bit of a low.

But I started this blog for me. Not for anyone else. I started this blog as a creative outlet, somewhere to write, document my life and my thoughts. It was supposed to be a hobby and something that I loved to do. And don't get me wrong, it is, but it was never supposed to make me feel down if I didn't feel like blogging one day.

I've got too wrapped up in being worried that if I don't blog, no one is going to read anything I write in future, or offer me any more opportunities that I'm always so thankful for. The fact that I haven't got round to filming a video, or writing up the posts that I needed to this weekend shouldn't be making me feel so guilty. I know that this is just a phase, and give it a week or two and I'll have my blogging mojo back and won't have enough time to write down everything that I want.

So I'm taking a bit of a step back. If I suddenly get the inspiration to blog tomorrow, then I will. But if it doesn't come tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after that, then that's completely fine too.

I started this blog for me.

  2. Wonderful post Sophie, absolutely focus on what you need and only blog because you want to. It's ok to have a break, we'll still be here after a break or no break! x

  3. Don't worry about it Sophie, I'm pretty sure every blogger feels like this at times! Taking a break and time for yourself, definitly gives your mind a refresh so don't beat yourself up over it. You've come such a long way in a year and your dedicated readers will definitely remain there, even if you take some time off :) x

  4. I think I feel exactly the same as you. I'm going traveling for 3 months soon and I'm worried that all of my hard work will go down the pan because I won't be blogging much (if at all). But like you, I'm reminding myself that I blog for me and it's ok to have a break. Those who love your work (like me) will always come back to read whatever you do so don't worry xx

  6. Thank you for this post, I've been feeling completely unmotivated and not once has 'I started this blog for me' crossed my mind. Thank you for reminding me of that fact!

  7. I totally get what you mean! I think it's so easy to get caught up in the numbers and trying to make your blog "successful". We have to just take a step back and remember why we started ❤️

  8. I think this is something a lot of us seem to be feeling at the moment! I'm totally blaming this cold weather...just because. But yeah, that's what I'm trying to remember - it's my blog, I'll post when I want!

  9. As long as you do blogging (or anything else) because you love it, your posts have a purpose to exist. And people who care will read them.

It's very important to take breaks once in a while and re-energize. Take care!

  14. I think this is so true! You get caught up in trying to please everyone else that you lose sight in why you started in the first place and you get to their point where you stress if something isn't 100% perfect and you can't just be yourself.

  15. I think your blog is so refreshing because you write from the heart - it's good that you recognise you started your blog for you. I started mine just for me too and that changes when it becomes for part PR. I got sent a coat and I was like, I really need to put a review up but because I'd pressurised myself, I got blog block!!!! Anyway I'm feeling more relaxed about it and helps when I read other blogs. I'm still so inspired by your first YouTube video, I'd really love to do one, I just don't know what angle to go on.... I'll get there. ;) xxx

  18. This is all so true but it's wonderful that you haven't lost sight of what's important. This blog is for you! And if some days you don't feel like blogging, you shouldn't feel any pressure or guilt about that! I feel this way many times as well so I can really relate to this post. Just keep writing to be inspired and creative and remember why you started in the first place! xo

  19. Sophie this is so honest and I can totally relate! Sometimes life can just get in the way or you can have a block on what to write and the guilt sets in when it shouldn't. Keep doing it for you :)) www.ohstyle.uk x
