5 reasons I'm thankful for blogging.

Avenue de Sophie, Blogging, Blogger, Reasons to be happy

Ask anyone who's a blogger, and I think it's safe to say that upon starting a blog, it's a little bit like something out of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Okay, I know that sounds like a bit of a strange analogy, but just bear with me a sec.. You set up your own little online space, and all of a sudden it's like you stumble into this completely unknown world that you never even knew existed.

One rainy Sunday last November, sat drinking coffee in Central Perk, blissfully unaware of what I was about to discover, I did just this and set up Avenue de Sophie. Or Sophie(e) Rebecca, as it was called at first because Sophie Rebecca with just one 'e' had already been taken on blogger. Struggles! Oh well, at least it made me get a little more creative in the end with my blog name!

Since then, I feel like the last 9 months have been a little bit of a whirlwind, but I've genuinely loved every second, with my only regret being that I wish I'd uncovered this little world sooner! So, I thought I'd make a little list as to why I'm ever so thankful that I found blogging.

Friends. | I don't think there's any way to write this without coming across super cheesy, but I'm gonna try anyway. Within weeks of starting my little blog, I was fortunate enough to get talking to THE best bunch of girls ever, and I'd love to think that we're gonna be friends for a very long time to come yet. They're no longer 'blogging friends', they're just 'friends who also happen to blog' and I love it. But as well as the guys I've already met, and meet up with on a pretty regular basis now, there's also all you guys who I talk to on Twitter, Instagram, or through comments on our blogs, and I feel like I've got to know you guys too! There's always someone to talk to, and you only have to put a tweet out on Twitter for example, and you no longer feel lonely, or down. YOU ALL JUST MAKE ME SMILE SO MUCH.

New skills. | 9 months ago I didn't have a freakin' clue what HTML or CSS coding was. To be fair, I'm still pretty clueless, but it's something that I'm learning more and more about, and at least I like to think I kinda know the basics now. Same with DA and SEO and everything else that comes with having your own little page on the internet. Not to mention being able to constantly work on and improve my writing and photography skills. Sometimes I look at my blog and I'm just like, I'm actually SO proud of how far I've come, and I'm so so looking forward to improving these things even more and see how far I can push myself.

Being proud of yourself is okay. | Speaking of being proud, I've also learned that actually, it's okay to be proud of things you do and personal goals that you achieve. I don't know about you guys, but I feel like it's a bit of a taboo to say that you're proud of yourself and want so share something that you've done. I've always been afraid that if I was to say something like this, particularly on social media, that people would perceive it as 'bragging', or being overconfident in what you do. But you guys have shown me the attitude of, why the hell not! We all have a right to be proud ourselves, and why shouldn't we share these things with our friends, and after all, more often than not, people are generally happy for us too! It's all just a big circle of positivity that makes us smile. That has to be a good thing, right?

A new perspective. | Blogging has given me a whole new perspective on life that I think I'm going to be forever thankful for. It's shown me that we need to do whatever makes us happy. It's shown me that life's too short sometimes, and that we should embrace every second. It's also given me goodness knows how many ideas as to what I want to do in the future, and shown me that I'm currently very unhappy with what I'm doing. But, it's also taught me that only I can change this.

Confidence. | Oh goodness. This has probably been one of the biggest changes in myself over the past 9 months, and it's definitely something I'm still working on. You've probably noticed I've started doing outfit posts recently, and the only reason that stopped me doing these at first was that I wasn't confident enough to do them. Now, they're slowly becoming one of my favourite posts to write, and heck, they're definitely the most fun to photograph! I even posted this photo of myself in a bloomin' bikini on Instagram the other day! Like, that would just never have happened a few months ago! And actually, I'm a little bit proud of myself of having the confidence to do this now! :) It's also given me more confidence in terms of speaking to people. Rocking up at blogger events where I don't really know anyone, isn't that much a problem for me anymore, where as a few years ago it would have been.

Are you thankful that you discovered blogging? Let me know why! :)

  1. I honestly couldn't agree more with your Lion,Witch and Wardrobe analogy! There is a whole world here that people have NO idea about. With so much going on and so much to learn. My number one reason for being thankful about blogging is meeting such lovely people and learning SO many new skills. SEO you are my bitch. xxx
