2015 New Year Resolutions

2015 New Year Resolutions

So 2015 starts tomorrow!

The Soph who entered 2014 a whole 365 days ago, could not be more different to the Soph that will leave 2014.
And actually, I’m proud. I’m proud of who I’m becoming and I’m proud of what I’ve learnt.
2014 has been a rather eventful year; I moved out, I went on a crazy family holiday, I started a new qualification at work, I went to my first fashion show, I’ve met so many different people from a lot of different backgrounds, and I started my blog. The first and latter probably being two of the best things I’ve ever done.
So what has 2014 taught me? A lot.
And it’s all these lessons that have kinda gone into my 2015 new year resolutions, and I thought I’d share these with you guys in this post!

1. Worry less and take life less seriously.

(I think this is the most important, hence being first on the list!)

Like I mentioned, I’ve met so many different people this year, and some have had more of an impact on me than others. One person in particular taught me what I’m about to write, and even though they don’t realise quite what an impact they had on me, I am so thankful that I was able to learn this.
Life is too short. Fact. Life’s too short to worry, care too much about what other people think, and take life any more seriously than you need to. I think we all need to live on the wild side a bit more, go out, do stupid things and learn from our mistakes. At the end of the day, the important things in life is not work, paying the bills, or trying to please everyone, but making memories with friends and family, and creating stories that you can tell your grandchildren one day, stories that they’re gonna laugh at, and probably think you’re way stupid and uncool! But hey, life is meant to be lived. So that’s why number one on this list is to,
Live a little more.

2. Don’t be afraid to say yes.
I think this is quite a popular resolution, but simply saying ‘yes’ to things, rather than ‘let me think about it’, or ‘maybe’, can open so many new doors and create so many new opportunities, that I’m starting to wonder why I haven’t started doing this before.
It couldn’t be more simple, and the feeling of achieving things in the past has always made me feel great, so why not!

3. Don’t be afraid to say no.
Okay, yes, I realise I’ve completely contradicted myself here, but bear with me…
Saying ‘yes’ to something could possibly be the best thing you ever do, however, being able to say ‘no’ to someone, whether it be an opportunity that simply isn’t right for you, or standing up to someone who is, or has been taking you for granted, can also make you feel amazing.
I feel like I go along with a lot of things and a lot of people too easily, and quite often I’m afraid to say no, or convey my own opinion or how I feel. And it’s this that I’m hoping to work on in 2015!
Now to some less serious ones!

4. Read more.

I used to LOVE reading. It used to be a bit of a standing joke that I could open my own library with the number of books I had! And it’s quite sad that I don’t have the time to just sit and read anymore.
So 2015 is going to be the year that I get back to being a bookworm!

5. Eat healthier and get back to the gym… no, I really mean it this time!

I had a phase of about 2 months this year, where I hammered the gym and ate so healthy that I really toned up and felt pretty good about myself!
Now, this was on the lead up to my holiday so yes, I was thinking about what I was going to look like in any poolside photographs, and this was my motivation. As soon as I got back from holiday…

I stopped the gym, and during revision weeks started consuming whole jars of Nutella. (Erm, no, not in one go… I’m not that bad!)
So I’m determined to get back on it! Maybe I just need to book myself another holiday…?
So, there you go! My 2015 New Years Resolutions!

What are yours? :)

We went to London...!

We went to London...!

....but no, we did not buy a Heat magazine.

So this post is a little late, but I feel that Christmas was a rather good excuse to take a few days off from blogging!

On Saturday 20th December, me and one of my oldest and closest friends (who I don't see enough of!) went on day trip to London. It was Kat's 21st a few weeks before and I had NO idea what to get her, as I wanted to get her something special, 21 is quite a milestone after all!

My first idea was to go for afternoon tea together, however, about 3 weeks before the trip, two things occurred to me;

1. Kat doesn't drink tea.
2. The cakes/little sandwiches served at Afternoon Tea can be quite, err, unique.

And I had visions of us getting all the way there and Kat not drinking any tea or eating any cakes! So I scrapped that idea and decided to take her to London and have a lovely day of shopping and seeing a bit of the city as neither of us have spent a great deal of time down there.

So, we woke up bright and early (a little bit too early actually, we had quite a lot of time to spare!) and headed for the train station, grabbing a coffee on the way, obvs, and after me completely stressing that I'd booked us seats miles away from each other, we ended up sat on a lovely Virgin train, together, and had 2 hours to kill before we arrived at Euston.
(The first thing I did? Took a mandatory photo of my train ticket and coffee obvs... )

Once we arrived at Euston, we then had to figure out how to work the tube. Now, anyone who knows me, will know how much I err, can struggle with this kind of thing. If I had been on my own, I most probably would have ended up at Watford Junction rather than Knightsbridge that we actually needed. Thankfully, Kat was on the case, and managed to figure out where we needed to be!

First stop? Harrods!

Harrods was even more amazing than I expected, and we headed straight to the top floor with all the fabulous designers. Although, with me especially walking round like a little kid taking photo's of anything and everything, I feel like we got a few strange looks from the ladies in Jimmy Choo, sat in all their other designer clothes, most probably with Dolce & Gabbana on their arm, actually wanting to be served. Oh well...!

We must have spent a good 2 hours in Harrods at least, before we headed out to Hyde Park to have a walk around Winter Wonderland. This was also just as fabulous, although I feel it would have been even better if it had snowed! Not that that would have been good for the train actually...

I've never been an adrenaline junkie, and have never really been on a roller coaster ride or anything of the sort, and felt a little bit bad when Kat asked if we could go on some of the rides... but there was no way I was getting on any of those things. Sorry Kat!

By the time we'd found our way out of the park, I think it's safe to say we were both pretty shattered! We did get the tube into Oxford Circus, found and had a look round Liberty, but by this time everywhere was just so busy!

So, we decided it was time to go and find some food. Guess where we ended up...? Nando's!

To be fair, even though we weren't very adventurous, it tasted so good after a long day!

Even though I had imagined us going to more places, I had a lovely day and hope that Kat enjoyed her birthday surprise just as much!

I definitely need another trip back down there soon to do all the touristy stuff too! London is such a great city.

I'd also love to find some dead quirky little shops and cafe's to visit! I'm sure loads of you know London far better than I do, so if you have any recommendations for my next trip, please let me know!

Also, please check out Kat's social media! She's just lovely to follow.. promise!

Hope you all had a very holly jolly Christmas!

Hope you all had a very holly jolly Christmas!

Hello everybody!

Okay, so, firstly I just want to say that I realise that ever since I started my blog, quite a rather large proportion has been about Christmas and Christmassy things (whoops!), and so I promise that this will be one of, if not the last festive post... promise.

Anyway, I hope you all had a very lovely Christmas, surrounded by lots of loved family and friends.

We spent Christmas in our house with just the four of us; me, my brother, and my Mum and Dad. And quite frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Although if I'm honest, my Dad coming to tell us Santa had been dressed up as an elf was pretty much the highlight of the day!

I love the lead up to christmas. Decorating, shopping, delivering presents, and so I love just spending time at home on Christmas day, not doing very much apart from opening gifts, watching tv and eating obviously... a lot.

I don't want to write too much about 2014 and the New Year as I'm planning to talk all about that in a future post, but I must say 2014 has been one heck of a year, SO much has happened that I never expected and I'm actually really looking forward to 2015!

So to all my friends, all the bloggers I've been speaking to over the last few weeks, and of course to all my family, hope you all enjoy the rest of Christmas, have a fabulous New Year, and I'll see you in a few days!

Christmas tag... take 2! ☃

Christmas tag... take 2! ☃

How amazing are my Mum's decorations?!

Hello everybody!

Have I mentioned I love Christmas..? Just a little bit? Oh, okay, well, just in case I haven't talked about it enough, here's another festive post for you all!

I've been tagged by Rebecca to take part in a Christmas tag. I know I've already done one, but I thought why not just do another one anyway!

1. Do you prefer a real christmas tree or synthetic?

Hmm, definitely a real tree I think. I love the smell of a real Christmas tree, however, I feel a really good synthetic tree, that looks pretty real could be a proper good investment!

2. You're in a coffee shop, it's December. What do you pick?

To be quite honest, you'll find me in a coffee shop most days! I hate to say it but I've never really tried any of the festive favourites in any of the coffee shops. I did try Costa's Toffee Nut Latte once, however, I found it a little bit too sweet! I tend to stick to my signature Caramel Latte... whatever the season!

3. What's your favourite colour scheme for decorating the tree?

As you can see from the photo above, we tend to always decorate with a red and gold theme, and I think it's a really classy and traditional way to go, and so I'd probably have to say this one!

4. Giving or Receiving?

I don't think Christmas would be the same without either. I think everyone loves the receiving part of Christmas, but being able to give presents as well I think is just lovely. Especially when you know the recipient loves what you have given, makes you feel good as well!

5. To mince pie or not?

Erm, lets not...

6. What's your traditional Sunday lunch?

Being quite a fussy eater, there's not a great deal to my Sunday lunch I'm afraid! It's normally chicken/turkey, roast potatoes, lots of yorkshire puddings and the 2 pieces of broccoli that my Mum force feeds me every time..!

7. Christmas Day fashion?

Christmas jumpers!!!

8. What's your favourite Christmas song?

Oooh, erm I think Mariah Carey is a classic! But I also love It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and Baby, It's Cold Outside as well. They're definitely the ones I was singing to in the car on the way home this year!

9. What's your favourite Christmas film?

I think I explained the reasons in my other Christmas Tag but my favourite is T'was the Night.

10. Open presents before or after lunch?

Before! Who can wait till after?!

11. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

I don't think I could pick just one. Christmas is definitely for spending with family and I think that's what I always remember and love about it!

12. Favourite Christmas scent?

I think I answered the smell of the Christmas tree on my last post, however I've since acquired the Christmas Eve yankee candle which I think smells just lovely!!

13. What tops your tree?

An Angel! :)

14. What's the best part about Christmas for you?

Like I said, just spending time with family, getting to sit around the fire opening presents, and sitting in front of the tv on Christmas Evening watching films and all the TV specials!

I tag the lovely Kayleigh at VeryBerryCosmo!

I think I've got a new obsession... *

I think I've got a new obsession... *

...fairy lights*.

Hello everybody!

Okay, so keeping in the festive mood, I decided to put up these very lovely christmas fairy lights from the LED Hut.

As soon as I opened them and plugged them in I think I was a little bit in love. They are MEGA long! Not only this, but they flash and change colour and everything! I think there are about 8 different settings so you can literally have whatever effect you want. There are also four different colours on the lights, blue, green, red and yellow. So christmassy!

I think they are meant for a tree, however, we don't have a tree in the flat so they ended up draping the window sill as in the photo, and then because there were loads left, I also managed to put them over our photo frame as well!

I love fairy lights, I just think they can make a room look so much more cosy! Definitely going to keep these up for as long as possible.

And just one more photo...

Getting all festive...! ❅

Getting all festive...! ❅

Hello everybody!

Anyone who knows me at the minute will know that I am in a super festive mood, and have been feeling the christmas spirit since about October. Not least enhanced by this fabulous Christmas jumper from 'Primarni' of all places! AND IT EVEN PLAYS JINGLE BELLS!!!

I mean, what more could you even want from a Christmas jumper guys...?

As well as my jumper I have finally invested in some luxurious Yankee Candles... Christmas Eve and Season of Peace scents to be precise! These smell beautiful, are the perfect christmas colours, and have made my room feel that extra bit cosy.

If any of you follow me on Instagram, I have shared this next two little guys with you before, but I got Santa and Mr Snowman from Paperchase. They were only £3 each and I think they're meant to be for a Christmas tree, however, I think they look perfect on the top of my headboard!

And finally, you just cannot have christmas without some fairy lights, and some very christmassy bedding to go along with it. Here is what my bedroom looks like now, and to be quite honest, I might just never take any of it down!

What have you guys been doing to get into the Christmas spirit this year?

A very 'chic' day out...!*

A very 'chic' day out...!*

Hello everybody!

Okay, so, I firstly want to apologise for not posting in so long. I've had some exams over the last few weeks and so all my concentration had to be focused on those... unfortunately!

However, just before I buried my head in my books, I was invited to attend the Liverpool Fashion and Lifestyle Event hosted by Chic Networking at the fabulous Hilton Hotel. It was my first ever event like this, and I have the lovely Rebecca to blame for the whole afternoon!

After taking a good 2 and a half days to decide what to wear, we arrived at the Hilton just before 3pm and were greeted with a red carpet and photographers and champagne and everything! (Okay so just kidding about the photographers and champagne, but there really was a red carpet!)

After joining the queue that we weren't entirely sure what was for (We're British. If we see a queue, we join it.) we were able to go upstairs to have a look round the lots of different stalls and businesses that were set up, as well as helping ourselves to some beautiful looking almost too-good-to-eat-cake obvs...

After this, we wandered into where the catwalk was set up and had the pleasure of listening to a local band The Ambition, they really got us warmed up for the main event!

Now for some clothes...!

Some of the leading Liverpool designers were out in full force, all of their designs were just amazing, and of course, all of the models just looked gorgeous!

Here is just a few of the snaps that I managed to get!

...Please excuse the quality of the photographs, all only taken on my iPhone!

All in all, I had such a fab day, and look forward to attending lots more Chic Networking events.. if they'll have me!

Bloggers love! ♥

Bloggers love! ♥

Hello everybody!

I am currently sat in bed in my room (which is now fabulously festive), and I've just been thinking about the last week. It was this time last Tuesday that I decided to start this blog, and do you know what? I actually think it's going to be one of the best things I've decided to do.

There's just so much bloggers love out there!! ♡

During the last 7 days, I've blogged 7 times, gained around 80 new followers on twitter, received my first bloggers tag, and reviewed a brand new online jewellery store!

Literally all I think about during the day is what I can blog about when I get back to my flat, what photographs I can take, and just generally how to take my blog further and improve it loads, so that more of you lovely people might actually want to read it! :)

I've never considered myself to be a writer, and I am fully aware that I am not the best, however, I don't intend for this to be a formal blog, and I much prefer to think of this of my own little space on the internet, where I can have a little chat to anyone who wants to listen... or read... you get what I mean!

So, I guess this post was to just say thank you to those of you who have taken the time to read one, some, or all of my posts already! I know it's a bit of work in progress (fellow accountants, I hope you laughed at that at least a little, it would make me feel a lot better about the fact that I just amused myself..) at the mo, but practise makes perfect right?!

Please check out all my social media links, and if you want to leave any blogs/bloglovin'/twitter/instagram links, I'd love to follow you guys back!

#MinkStoneMyPiece Outfit Challenge*

#MinkStoneMyPiece Outfit Challenge*

Hello everybody!

So I've been lucky enough to be chosen by the lovely people over at Blogging Gals to take part in the #MinkStoneMyPiece Outfit Challenge that is being run with jewellery line Mink&Stone.

Mink&Stone are an online jewellery design platform, and they are about to launch a unique concept that allows customers to create their own jewellery online, with the designs then being made and shipped to the customers.

How fab does this sound? This could make accessorising our outfits SO much easier!

My challenge was to choose an outfit, and then design a piece of jewellery that I thought would compliment the outfit!

So, the outfit I chose was the monochrome outfit that I blogged about in my last post as I just love it so much! I thought that the black and white beads will obviously match the whole outfit wonderfully, while the larger red beads will add a splash of colour, while still remaining elegant and stylish.

I absolutely love the colour of the red feature beads, the colour is just so rich and lovely!

Using the Mink&Stone website was also so easy! It's really user friendly and I bet anyone is going to be able to use it. I'm thinking that this site is going to really take off, and the jewellery will make just the perfect, personalised gifts for family and friends.

Check out their website (linked above), and follow them on twitter here!

Mini New Look Haul!

Mini New Look Haul!

Hello everybody!

Okay, so today I took a well needed break from work and revision and went shopping! Not only did I get loads of Christmassy stuff (blog to follow!) but I got this dead cute outfit from New Look!

These Monochrome Check Trousers are just so lovely! I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to pull them off at first, however, I think that they would suit anyone. The fabric is stretchy and so they're not too tight, and I think that they are going to be so versatile! I think I'm actually a little bit in love with these... Oh and they have pockets!

This roll neck jumper is so also so cosy! It's also cropped and so goes perfectly with these trousers as it shows them off really well. It's so soft, and although you can't really tell in this photo, it has some lovely little detail around the seams.

I, personally, match these with some black loafers, a black bowler hat, and purple lipstick, and I can already tell I'm going to be living in this outfit this Christmas! I think these trousers would also look fab with a lovely, girly blouse and some stiletto's - Christmas party outfit sorted!

If anyone fancies picking either of these items up, details are below!

Let me know what your thoughts are!

Caravan of love.. ♥

Caravan of love.. ♥

Hello everybody!

So I know this photo is already on my about page, however, if you just ignore my face, it's the scarf that this post is about... in fact maybe I should have cropped it, then you wouldn't have even needed to see my face!

These Alphabet Scarves have been released by Matalan (a good few weeks ago now!) to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital Charity. You can buy them either in-store or online for £10 each (100% of the profits go straight to Alder Hey), and each letter comes in two different colours to choose from.

The money made from the scarves are helping to raise funds to provide doctors and nurses at Alder Hey with the latest equipment and facilities that they need to give the best healthcare for the children at the hospital.

I, personally, love my alphabet scarf. I think they are such a fab and lovely idea! They are raising money for charity whilst also being something that is still fashionable and wearable every day. They would also make such cute christmas presents, in fact, I'm planning on getting my family one each for christmas, including the dog (erm, sorry guys if you're reading this... definitely have not just let you in on part of your presents.. whoops)!

Pleaseeeeeee click here to order one! It's such a good cause!

As well as the scarves, I'm not sure if you guys have seen the advert or anything, but Pixie Lott has also released a charity single for it too, called Caravan of Love. You can download it from iTunes and it is such a lovely track! It's definitely my favourite song at the minute!

So yeah, I think you guys should all go and grab yourself a scarf, not only to help raise some money, but lets face it, they're also going to keep you warm (ho ho) this winter! (another one of my christmas faves!) ♪

If any of you guys get one, please tweet me your photo's of your own #scarfie ! :)

Getting all (nail) Christmassy!

Getting all (nail) Christmassy!

Hello everybody!

Today I thought I'd have a bit of a self pamper session and I started with the part that I LOVE the most, my nails! I've always had a bit of a fetish with getting my nails done, so my nail varnish collection is mahooosive!

I've been through quite a few different nail polishes over the years, but I have to say, Barry M is definitely one of my favourites! The variety of colours that they have is always fabulous, and I also love the different ranges that they have too, especially the glittery ones! It's always good when nail polish is easy to apply, I find that I never have any issues when applying Barry M, the brushes are a perfect size, and the colour just goes on so smoothly.

Today I opted for the nude Gelly shine, with a spot of the gold glitter on one nail on each hand. I love this gold glitter, it makes me feel soooo Christmassy all the time, and especially when paired with the red polish in the background - it looks so cute!

The price of Barry M nail paint is what I think makes it my secret guilty pleasure, most of the nail paints are £2.99 each. £2.99!!!! You can literally buy 3 of these for the price of one bottle of other brands of nail polish.

I actually can't get enough of these... just in case you couldn't already tell.

All in all, I would 10000% recommend Barry M if you're looking for cheap, but still just as lovely nail paint. Lovely!
